12k's of Christmas

The event kicks off with a champagne toast before you head out for a 1K loop in Eastern Market.

When you complete that loop, you will be rewarded with a beverage and treat before starting your next loop. If your stomach and legs are strong enough to have made it to the final loop, you’ll be greeted with cheers of glee and bragging rights galore at your office holiday party.

The details:

Date: 12.13.24 (Saturday)

Show up: 4pm-ish

Costume Contest: 4:45

Start time: 5pm-sharp

End time: 7pm (15 min/mile if you eat fast)

Parking: Across the street from RUNdetroit. Don’t block the cones. We’ll be cutting through one of the dirt parking lots.

The run is on open roads. It’s pretty quiet in the Market on Saturday nights, but you will need to follow the rules of the road. We’ll be making all left turns and using the sidewalks, but you will cross Division Street at the start of each loop and yield as necessary.

For well over a decade this event has taken place from Kevin’s driveway. He has passed the jingle bells to us and we’re keeping as much as possible the same. Historically this has  been potluck- style with every participant bringing a menu item. Participants have also brought one item to donated to a local food bank as well.

If you’d rather save the time of bringing a menu item, we are offering you the option of paying a small fee of $12 just to cover costs. If you’d like to participate in the potluck we’ll share a file where you can pick the item(s) you’d like to bring.  We will however ask that everyone continue to bring a non-perishable food or unopened toiletry item that will be passed onto one of the great local charities. Please ensure items are not expired and not in a glass container.

Q: What if I can’t finish?

A: Many don’t. Just stick around and cheer, heckle and enjoy the festiveness!

Q: Can I wear a costume?

A: Does Rudolph have a red nose?  

Q: Are non-alcoholic beverages available?

A: Yes. To help us plan our shopping, please select the best or closest ticket type at check out.

Q: What is the minimum age?
A: We don’t have one. We’re running on the sidewalk on open roads. Use your judgement.

Q: I’m not a runner, can I walk it?

A: Absolutely!

Q: Can I bring my dog?

A: Sure, but keep them on a leash and under control at all times or Santa will put you on the naughty list.

Q: I have a peanut/ gluten allergy. What are my options?

A: Ask for a substitute when you get to that item. However, we cannot guarantee any menu item is cross-contamination free.

Q: Are bathrooms available?

A: Yep, inside

Q: I’m busy that night, will you be doing this any other days?

A: Yes, in 2026
